The town of Iva, nestled into the lower part of Anderson County, has a population

of just over a thousand people. The town was incorporated in 1904 and is named

after Iva Cook Bryson. She was the daughter of Dr. Augustus Cook. Originally,

Cook had wanted to name the local railroad depot Cook’s Station, but that was

taken by another depot. With some community input, it was decided that Iva would

be the name of both the community and the depot.

To learn more about Iva, join us at the Anderson County Museum

on January 16, at 4:30 PM, as Tim Taylor continues the discussion on Iva’s history.
