On February 27, the Anderson Arts Center will open its annual Youth Art Month exhibit. Students from elementary, middle and high school grade levels from public, private and home school associations participate in this juried art show.
More than 600 entries are typically submitted, and approximately 35 students receive awards for their work. First, second and third place award recipients cash prizes and several honorable mention ribbons are presented.
In addition to the awards presented by the juror, approximately 50 pieces of artwork are selected for an extended exhibition at AnMed Health, in the Gallery Cafe at McDougald Funeral Home, and our newest extended exhibit partner, Tri County Technical College – Anderson campus.
The opening reception and awards ceremony is Sunday, Feb. 27, 1-3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m.
In addition to the Youth Art Month exhibition, students of T.L. Hanna’s art department will present a Wearable Art Exhibition on Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m. This exhibition will be presented at the Anderson Arts Center, and tickets are required. Tickets are only $10 per person (children under 5 are free), and may be purchased at the TL Hanna front office or on the school’s website.
Along with the student artwork, a district-wide teacher show is on display in the Atrium Gallery. Art teachers from all five public school districts are invited to participate, and this exhibit opens with a gallery reception on Thursday, March 3 from 6:30-8:30
Youth Art Month is made possible by generous community supporters. This year’s exhibition is sponsored by Anderson Pediatric Dentistry, AnMed Health, McDougald Funeral Home and Tri County Technical College. The Arts Center’s address is 110 Federal Street in Anderson.
